UPSC Prelims Result 2025 Declared: What’s Next for Civil Services Aspirants
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has officially declared the results of the Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2025. For lakhs of aspirants across India, this moment marks the culmination of months of rigorous preparation and anxiety.
In a swift and timely manner, the results were released on June 11, 2025, just over two weeks after the exam was held on May 25. Candidates who appeared for the exam can now access the result PDF on the official website — upsc.gov.in.
What the UPSC Prelims 2025 Result Means
The Civil Services Preliminary Exam is the first of three stages in the prestigious UPSC Civil Services Examination. Clearing the prelims qualifies candidates for the next phase — the Mains examination, which is more detailed and subjective.
This year, a total of 14,161 candidates have been shortlisted for the Mains stage. The result, as always, is declared in the form of a PDF containing roll numbers of the qualified candidates. If you find your roll number there, congratulations — you’re one step closer to your IAS, IPS, or IFS dream.
However, four candidates’ results have been withheld due to legal reasons. UPSC has listed these roll numbers separately.

How to Check Your UPSC Prelims Result 2025
Here’s how you can access your result:
- Visit the official UPSC website: www.upsc.gov.in
- Look for the link titled “Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2025 Result” under the ‘What’s New’ section.
- Click to download the PDF.
- Use the search function (Ctrl + F) to find your roll number.
The commission will not send individual scorecards at this stage. Marks and cut-off scores will be released after the final results of the Civil Services Examination 2025 are published.
What’s Next? The Road to Mains
Qualified candidates must now get ready for the Mains stage, which is more intensive and requires in-depth knowledge, analytical thinking, and structured answer-writing skills.
- Mains Application (DAF): Candidates will need to fill out the Detailed Application Form (DAF-I) between June 16 and June 25, 2025.
- Mains Examination Dates: The Civil Services Mains 2025 exam is scheduled to begin from August 22, 2025.
The DAF is a crucial document and includes personal information, service preferences, and details about optional subjects. Candidates are advised to fill it out carefully and honestly. Mistakes or misinformation can lead to disqualification.
For Those Who Didn’t Clear
It’s a bitter pill to swallow, but not making it to the list does not mark the end of the journey. Each year, thousands of brilliant minds face rejection at the prelims stage. Many of them go on to crack the exam in future attempts.
Use this experience as a diagnostic tool. Reflect on what worked and what didn’t. Take time to analyze your performance — was it a lack of preparation in CSAT, inadequate revision, or poor time management?
Remember, UPSC is not just a test of knowledge, but of perseverance and adaptability.
Tips for Mains Preparation
If your name is in the result list, it’s time to switch gears:
- Begin Answer Writing: Practice writing answers daily. Stick to the word limit and develop a structured approach.
- Focus on GS Papers and Essay: These carry significant weight. Current affairs integration is key.
- Revise Optional Subject Thoroughly: Your optional paper can be a game-changer.
- Read Toppers’ Copies: Study how previous successful candidates wrote their answers.
- Stay Updated: Keep an eye on editorials, PIB releases, and government reports.
