WaterScience, a pioneering force in non-drinking water filtration, has raised ₹1.4 crore in a fresh funding round from Velocity, a growth capital platform backed by Peter Thiel’s Valar Ventures. Driving Growth and Innovation
The newly secured capital will propel WaterScience’s ambitious expansion plans, focusing on three key areas: scaling operations, amplifying brand marketing, and diversifying its product portfolio. The company aims to solidify its position as a comprehensive water solutions provider by introducing innovative categories tailored to address India’s pressing water quality challenges.
Founded in 2014 by Sudeep Nadukkandy, Pavithra Rao, and Mohammed Iqbal, WaterScience has carved a niche in the non-drinking water filtration segment, which accounts for over 95% of household water consumption through activities like bathing, washing, and cleaning. With a robust catalog of over 40 products—including shower and tap filters, appliance filters, kitchen filters, water softeners, and whole-house filtration systems—WaterScience tackles issues like hard water, chlorine, and other contaminants that affect 70% of Indian homes.
A Vision for Healthier Homes
“This funding is a powerful endorsement of our commitment to making water safer and healthier for every Indian household,” said Pavithra Rao, Co-Founder of WaterScience. “With Velocity’s backing, we’re poised to accelerate our growth, innovate across new product categories, and extend our reach to an additional 1 million homes this year.” The company, which already serves over 2 million households, has set an ambitious target to reach 3 million by FY25-26.
WaterScience’s focus on non-drinking water filtration addresses a critical yet underserved market. Hard water, a pervasive issue in 70% of Indian homes, contributes to skin and hair damage and reduces the lifespan of appliances. With the non-drinking water filtration market projected to grow at a 15% CAGR through 2028, WaterScience is well-positioned to capitalize on this opportunity.
Market Presence and Growth Trajectory
WaterScience has achieved a remarkable 70% year-on-year growth, bolstered by a strong presence across major e-commerce platforms like Amazon, Flipkart, and Shopify, as well as over 1,000 offline retailers. This extensive distribution network has helped the company establish itself as a leader in the non-drinking water filtration space. The latest funding will further strengthen its digital and offline footprint while fueling product innovation to meet evolving consumer needs.

Velocity, founded in 2020 by IIT Bombay alumni Abhiroop Medhekar, Atul Khichariya, and Saurav Swaroop, is a leading e-commerce enablement platform offering non-dilutive capital and AI-driven tools like Shipfast for logistics and growth support. Backed by Valar Ventures, Velocity has disbursed over ₹1,100 crore to more than 4,000 direct-to-consumer (D2C) and digital-first brands, including Soulflower, Rynox Gears, and Chumbak.
Atul Khichariya, Co-Founder and COO of Velocity, praised WaterScience’s innovative approach: “Their growth trajectory and commitment to addressing the non-drinking water filtration gap make them a true category creator. We’re proud to support their next phase of expansion.”
Competitive Edge and Future Outlook
WaterScience operates in a niche yet rapidly growing market, competing with both domestic and international players in the water filtration space. Its focus on non-drinking water solutions, coupled with a consumer-centric approach, sets it apart from traditional drinking water purification brands. The company’s ability to innovate and scale has been further strengthened by its long-standing partnership with Velocity, which began in 2020 with earlier funding rounds.
As India’s digital ecosystem continues to evolve, WaterScience is poised to lead the charge in addressing water quality challenges. With this latest funding, the company is not only expanding its market reach but also setting a new benchmark for innovation in the D2C water solutions sector.
